What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
The Art of Mindful Eating was inspired by the experiences of professional athletes and young women, having struggled with food for a number of years. After many years of misadventures and having tried pretty much every possible diet or fashionable cleansing programme, we came to regard dieting as an art form and a way for us to express ourselves. Now, we have decided to spread the word on how we eventually made friends with food and started on the amazing path of mindful eating.

You’ve probably experienced the cycle before. You’ve been off the diet for a few weeks and now you’re being bad. Now you don’t have to worry about counting calories, you’re treating yourself to naughty foods and reclaiming your social life and your freedom. But as your ‘freedom high’ wears off, you begin to experience increasing feelings of guilt that rain all over your post-diet parade.
One of the main reasons diets tend not to work is because they don’t take into account the people behind them. They don’t care about our stories or our personalities – they just impose themselves on us with no consideration for our individuality. Diets force us to change our lives quickly, without any gradual steps, and this often leads to failure. We are given no time to practise, but simply thrown in at the deep end and left to either sink or swim. More often than not, we sink.

Unlike typical diets, mindful eating is like an art form, understanding that before it can be mastered, it must be practised. Mindful eating allows you the time to do this – teaching you how to change your diet and your attitude so that you may lead a healthier, happier life. Off another diet for a few weeks, you have been “bad.” Whether or not you lost weight while on the diet, you are probably looking forward to the regained quality of life and freedom to eat whatever and whenever.
