Ted Bear is in his senior years now, retired and spending most of his time reminiscing in the chair he once shared with his mother Christine, 60+ years ago. He needs specs these days to fully enjoy this third e-book in the series – ‘Small Folk Tales’, but don’t be misled into thinking Ted Bear lacks spirit in his later years. It was Ted who demanded the ‘Esq.’ addition to his name (yes, it IS a vanity but at his age, who’s going to argue with him?). The same prima donna threatened ‘go slow’ action if Christine didn’t write appropriate comments to accompany her photos of him (‘Go slow’? How much slower than full stop CAN you go?). There was never a question in Ted’s mind that his name and title would be THE title of his book, and his photo would be the front cover of his album.

Writing in this genre for small children is easy when your philosophy is the same as mine about ‘learning to read in order to enable reading to learn’. My attitude will not change, as my chosen genres may change in the future – the principle still applies.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
Read and read some more, and never stop learning. When you read from the best, you too will improve your skills – and learn from the rest the things you don’t like, words or sayings or punctuation that jar on your senses and upset your sensibilities. Never, ever give up your dreams, or dreaming. Never stop being challenged to be your best possible self. Treasure your self-belief and your self-esteem. These are precious.
Author Bio:
I am Christine Larsen – a wife, mother, grandmother, and writer. I have been – a Secretary, a Lifeline telephone counsellor, a Community Careworker – and a farmer throughout each of these. Today I am a born-again writer after countless rejections of my children’s stories over three decades ago. In those financially stretched years, I was too busy raising kids, milking cows and farming, to continue to believe in myself as a wordsmith. I tucked my works away on a back shelf to gather much dust. A series of unexpected events coincided with my ’empty nest’ syndrome as I embraced a variety of crafting pursuits before having another ‘go’ at writing. Success came with recognition by Squidoo and Ezine Articles that my words were not only acceptable, but also worthy of praise and awards. Armed with my newly re-developing positive feelings about my potential, I embarked upon the e-book self-publishing learning curve with Amazon’s Kindle. This first series of children’s books is the result.
Ted provides all the inspiration a writer could need. One look in those eyes behind the specs he needs these days, and a lifetime of memories is revealed in their depths. His stories abound, if you just listen carefully… and he and I have been doing precisely that for a long time.
