In a lake there’s a patch of lily pads doubling in size every day. It takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long does it take to cover half of the lake? System 1 – fast, intuitive thinking – says 24 days. System 2 – slower logical thinking – says 47 days. System 3 Thinking looks more closely at the question and comes to a different conclusion, that after 48 days the patch would cover much of an ocean, not a lake. But this book isn’t about puzzles, its central theme is questioning authority. Why are we so bad at checking up on the claims people make? And are those claiming to represent the underdog really just pushing the same old argument from authority? System 3 Thinking poses quite a few other questions such as: Why do organizations tend to become ossified over time? Do we really need 10000 hours of training to achieve success? It doesn’t have all the answers, but I hope that it will give you something to think about and maybe help you in your quest to make a difference in what you do.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I received Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking, Fast and Slow" as a present. As I read it, I began to have doubts about what it was saying about System 1 and 2 thinking. System 3 Thinking is my response.
