They started as nightmares, vivid terrors striking in the darkest recesses of the night.
The faceless shadow form, chasing Ariadne Perasmenos through her dreams.
Finding her, subduing her. Slaughtering her.
But now things have changed.
The nightmares have started to leach into reality, their grip extending way beyond the subconscious realm.
The line between what is real and what is not becomes increasingly blurred as Ariadne finds herself waking up bruised and bloodied.
But is the ‘Shadow Man’ real, or a figment of her imagination? Is she being hunted by some demonic creature, or suffering from some psychological disorder?
Seeking the truth, and unable to trust herself , Ariadne is in a deadly race against time.
Because the next time she falls asleep, she might not wake up again…

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
My first book was crime fiction and this novel is horror, so elements of it are quite similar. I suppose with crime my focus is more about why the criminals do what they do, whereas this book is more about how a person reacts to things happening to them.
My focus is always very much on the psychological aspect of the stories, and so in some ways I suppose whatever genre I write in, that will always remain the same.
With horror, I do feel there needs to be quite an uncomfortable undercurrent though. The reader needs to feel unnerved, and as though something terrible could happen at any given time – and it often does in this genre..!
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
I really think just getting it written is so important.
You can edit, rewrite and perfect everything later, but just getting the novel finished – knowing which character does what and when, what happens, how it happens, getting the beginning, middle and end in place – is so important. It gives you a solid framework in which to work.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?I have suffered from insomnia and other sleep disorders for a number of years, and thought it would be interesting to explore this. I wanted to look at sleep disorders as they can be so horrible that you can quite easily be convinced that something is being ‘done’ to you by an external force, rather than having a rational, psychological explanation behind them.
I specifically wanted to look at sleep paralysis, as this is something that I experience fairly regularly, and is something that people in all cultures throughout history have experienced. Entire myths have been built up around this disorder, so I wanted to give a kind of ‘what if’ scenario – is the character in the book ‘merely’ suffering from sleep paralysis, or is something more sinister going on?
