What inspired you to write your book?
Living with a cat like Squirt is a gift. He provides so many priceless moments it’s almost as if he was asking me to write about his life. My other animals also feature in the book, each contributing to Squirt’s stories in their own way.
About your Book:
Squirt is a pedigree Somali Cat from Scotland where he lives with his Staff (the author). Reservoir Cats is Squirt’s story written from his own unique cat’s eye view of life. This is a cat with delusions! He sees himself as a feline superhero and sincerely believes that he sounds like Sir Sean Connery.
The reader is taken on a journey into Squirt’s world, along the way you are treated to extracts from his diary from birth through growing up and into adulthood. Join Squirt on his adventures as he plots revenge on the mysterious Box Man, takes the world of commerce by storm and arranges a world class sporting event. Squirt welcomes you to his home, introduces his family, friends and enemies and, as an added bonus, shares his advice and opinions on a range of subjects from food to Feng Shui. You will fall in love with this irreverent, hilarious cat!

How do you see writing a book in the Pet Genre as different from writing other genres of books?
Since this is my first book this is not an easy one to answer. I would say almost certainly easier than writing fiction (although there is a certain amount of fiction in Reservoir Cats) because I live with my characters they virtually tell me their own stories on a daily basis.
Advice to someone that is thinking about or currently working on a pet book
People who love pets also love books about them, and animals are all so different in their own way that we never get fed up of reading (or writing) about them. Whether you are considering writing a story or a non-fiction book it’s good to share your tales or knowledge with the world so I would say go for it – you have nothing to lose!
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
Reservoir Cats is a self published book in the Amazon Kindle store. Unlikely as it may seem I got inspired to take this publishing route during a conversation with a customer services assistant at my mobile phone provider! Heaven knows how we got onto the subject but he had also written a book and self published this way. It was a good choice, it costs nothing but time and was much easier to do than I had anticipated. I will certainly do this again for my next book.
Author Bio:
I never did listen to the age old advice not to work with children and animals – this is what I have done for most of my working life.
After leaving agricultural college in the 1980’s I managed a city farm, then worked at a horse museum (real live working horses) with the animals and of course the visitors. After leaving the Yorkshire Dales and moving to the North of Scotland I spent a few interesting years working with birds of prey, taking them out to visit schools and homes for the elderly. It was all quite frantic at times but great fun and full of those ‘file it for future use’ moments that writers love so much.
I’m now living at a somewhat steadier pace working part time in the local village shop which leaves me with more time to spend with my animals and to follow a life long love of writing.
