SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS, 1971. The eldest son of a powerful drug lord is abducted from his home. Six weeks later, in the early hours of the morning, his mutilated corpse is dumped unceremoniously in his front yard. The drug lord’s vengeance is systematic and merciless, but the two masterminds of the crime, a mysterious Cuban called Comandante Cariño and a cruel American called Amy, manage to escape. Fast-forward to 1973. An American pop star, a Honduran heiress, a vengeful father, a jealous former classmate, and international terrorists converge in Paris. What could go wrong?
Recording artist and CIA troubleshooter Brad James is working on his upcoming record release in Paris when he is tasked with an undercover investigation into a suspected terrorist plot and the murder of a fellow operative who discovered it. His investigation is thrown into turmoil when he saves Yolanda, an alluring Honduran heiress, from a brutal abduction perpetrated by the terrorists he is hunting. She begs him for help and against his better judgement, he accepts, but can he trust her? Brad partners up with former marine sergeant Chuck Hall and together they call on Brad’s diverse range of connections from both the CIA and the music industry to find answers. Their investigation is hampered by an obstructive embassy official and gets complicated when the terrorist mastermind makes Brad a marked man and the vengeful drug lord appears on the scene hot on the trail of his son’s assassins Amy and Comandante Cariño. The clock is ticking as Brad and Chuck’s crusade to dismantle the global conspiracy plays out behind a backdrop of romantic desire, adolescent jealousies, and dark family secrets. “The storyline offers bombshell plot twists.” (BlueInk Review) “A tale of revenge, on an outsize scale.” (Publishers Weekly BookLife) “A deftly scripted novel of danger and sharp wit . . . Requiem for Betrayal patiently unravels a thrilling tale of espionage, secrets, lust, betrayal, and (most of all) revenge.” (Midwest Book Review)

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
In 1973 Paris was at the center of the Cold War that was heating up and the era of international terrorism that was just beginning. Remember the Munich massacre of eleven Israeli hostages by the Palestinian Black September movement at the 1972 summer Olympics in Germany. That was followed up by a series of Black September plots were foiled in Cyprus, London, Turkey, Vienna, and Italy and in October/November of 1972 the letter bomb campaign caused panic. There was the Israeli embassy hostage crisis in Bangkok in December 1972 and in January 1973 Black September blew up the Jewish Agency for Israel in Paris and gunned down an Israeli intelligence officer in Madrid. Just a few weeks later, the Saudi embassy in Khartoum was attacked. Black September also sought allies and began to hook up and collaborate with other radical movements supported by the Communist bloc countries. Cuba was particularly active, and had been increasing its presence in Latin America and Africa. Castro went to Chile in ’71 and hobnobbed with the socialist Allende regime. Joined the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance in 1972 and sent operatives all over the world. I was in Paris at the time and got caught up in all the excitement.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Brad James was inspired by a guy I knew well and hung around with at the Barbary Coast Saloon. He was very self-confident and always polite and charming—except when he was challenged. I saw him take out three gangbangers who tried to rob him at knifepoint on the Boulevard Saint Michel. Chuck Hall was constructed from an amalgam of jarhead embassy guards that frequented the Barbary Coast Saloon. I dreamed Yolanda up from some of the Latin-American girls I met in Paris. There was one—she was so beautiful and so mysterious—that was said to be related to the drug trade. Then I just let my imagination take over.
