A cozy mystery set in the small town of Gold Springs, California. Raina Sun is a typical graduate student trying to keep her head above water as the bills roll in. Then her dashing college adviser cons her out of several months of rent.
Her quest to get her money back sets into motion a streak of bad luck. First, she finds the dead body of an ex-lover and becomes the prime suspect to his murder. The only man she ever loved reappears as the lead detective to the case and wants to reignite their passion (or at least he’s sending out smoke signals).
Her life careens out of control as her grandma moves into Raina’s postage-stamp-sized apartment, dragging a red suitcase and trouble.
Raina must figure out how to extract herself before things get dicey. There is no place for an amateur when it comes to murder.
Targeted Age Group: 13 and up (non violent or graphic).
Book Price: $0.99

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
“Raining Men and Corpses” features amateur sleuth Raina Sun, an American born Chinese (ABC). I wrote this book partly because I want my daughter to be able find characters that are just like her. It’s not meant to be a book about the Chinese experience like Amy Tan’s books.
Raina is just your average grad student. She has the same concerns as everyone else: family secrets, mounting bills, and a boatload of Ramen. But sprinkle here and there are moments that Raina’s ethnicity and culture shape her viewpoint and the investigation.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
I don’t think I’m qualified to give advice to aspiring writers since “Raining Men and Corpses” is my debut novel. But one thing I found most helpful is joining a critique group. While I might have written the story, it is my writing buddies’ feedback that help make it shine.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
“Raining Men and Corpses” is a cozy mystery. I wrote the kind of book I would enjoy reading. Something with a good puzzle, a little humor, and a dash of romance. I want readers to finish the book with a smile on their face when justice is served with a sprinkle of humor at the end.
About the Author:
Anne R. Tan is an avid reader. She fell in love with storytelling in elementary school, but decided to study engineering so she could get a “real job.” Her day job is her vacation from home and she moonlights as a writer to keep the voices inside her head under control. After years of suppressing her creativity, she wrote Raining Men and Corpses, her debut humorous mystery featuring Raina Sun, a Chinese American amateur sleuth, trying to figure out how to deal with love, family betrayal, and her place in the world while solving murders. For those of you who had read any of her work, Tan would love to hear from you at author@annertan.com, and she would really appreciate it if you could leave her a review on Amazon.com or GoodReads.com If you are interested in learning more about Tan and her writing process, please visit her website at http://annertan.com.
