Fifty years ago, Captain Nina Brooke hand-picked a crew from across the world to accompany her on the mission of a lifetime. Today, they’re all waking up. The Posterity is making her final approach to their new home planet, and the work is about to begin. Humanity wasn’t an endangered species when they set off on this mission, but it’s a darn sight closer to being one now. No pressure, then.
The new planet seems perfect; plenty of resources, good settlement locations, habitable climates. After what happened to Earth, Nina is conscious that they need to take better care of this one. It takes all sorts to make a world, and Nina’s got all sorts asleep in her cryobay; not only the people required to build it, but the ones to make it feel like home, too. After all, what good is saving humanity if you leave the best parts of it behind?
Some people find it easier than others to start new lives here on the other side of the galaxy, but then, it all depends on what they left behind. As Nina navigates relationships old and new, will she finally find the one thing she’s never had: a home?

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I write the stories that I would have loved to read as a teenager/young woman, where everyone is accepted in a new world and there are varied strong role models everywhere. I also love reading cosy novels and Posterity is that – a feel-good read.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Nina is exactly the sort of person I would choose to lead this mission, which is why I created her! She's strong but kind, with years of experience under her belt that will prepare her for anything (she hopes!). The rest of the crew fell into place around her as we discovered what skills people would need, then the rest of the colonists emerged as we progressed.

Captain Nina Brooke blinked as the haze lifted and everything started to come back into focus. Warm air rushed over her, soothing away the chill lingering in her fingers and toes. The face of her Chief Medical Officer pixelated into clarity, dark curls framing her serious face, then her words started to register.
“Welcome back, Captain. Remember to take it slowly.”
Nina eased herself into a sitting position and rubbed her eyes, chasing the last shadows from them. Dr Caimile backed up slightly to give her room as she stretched and looked around her. The cryobay looked exactly as she remembered it, enormous and sterile. It felt like no time had elapsed since she lay down in her pod.
“Whew. Any idea how long we’ve been out?”
“Not yet,” the doctor replied, shaking her head. “I’ve been awake five minutes longer than you; I just had long enough to run checks on myself before I got the alert that you were waking up. Now, if you don’t mind…” She gestured to the medical unit in the wall and Nina got down from the table that had been her cryopod, crossing gingerly to the recess and stepping in. She felt the familiar tingling sensations as the unit assessed her but ignored them, focusing instead on running through her next tasks in her head. After years of preparation, it was about to begin. The thought gave her a pleasant adrenaline rush as she tuned out the physical. After a moment, the unit bleeped and a small receptacle containing a number of pills emerged from the wall next to her. She threw them back and stepped down, grimacing as she swallowed them.
“Alright, Doc. Prepare to wake the rest of the crew. I’m heading up to the bridge to check it’s not a false alarm. I’ll let you know when we’re good to go.”
