What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
As a professional speaker, one of my seminars involves leadership and another one focuses on goal-setting. Since I was often asked if I had a book covering either of those topics, I decided to combine them into one volume.

Generous With Praise
If we want to make a valuable deposit in another person, offering a genuine and sincere compliment is a priceless act. By praising another’s actions, words, or person, it affirms his value and worth. It satisfies that insatiable need for approval we all possess.
The effects of praise are easily viewed in a child’s reaction. Tell junior his drawing is beautiful and he will positively glow with joy! Compliment his ability to maintain a clean room, and he will feel inspired to continue this behavior. To a child, these affirmations are like applause and cheers. You have noticed his efforts and rewarded him with praise and a proverbial cookie. (Sometimes he receives a real cookie, too!)
The need for this type of positive reinforcement does not diminish as we age. The small child, still desperate for approval, continues to reside within each person. Unfortunately, the amount of praise we receive dwindles as we enter adulthood. This means we cherish the smatterings of genuine commendations when they do occur even more.
Praise is a special gift. The more we give, the more we receive. The recipient of the acclamation experiences joy and satisfaction, and so does the giver. Once we fully appreciate the positive reactions on both sides of the coin, we are more motivated to commend others. We are apt to seek out opportunities to offer praise and encouragement, because we will feel good, too.
We may be stingy with our money, but throw restraint out the window when it comes to praise! It is not a limited commodity. We possess an infinite amount of affirmations and will only lose the ability to produce more if we fail to give them away. The more we shower others with compliments and gratitude, the greater our capacity grows. Hoarding praise only results in diminishing results, as those who offer compliments infrequently are also the least likely to receive such glory.
Before preceding any further, perhaps some examples of praiseworthy situations are in order. After all, there are more opportunities than simply congratulating a friend when he receives a promotion at work. Moments of great triumph deserve acclamations, but the need for praise extends beyond major accomplishments. Many small occurrences in day to day living garner the need for our attention.
Consider the following scenarios:
· The wife who is prompt with dinner preparations
· The store clerk who is friendly and helpful
· The postal worker who brings our mail to the door so it will not be crushed in the mailbox
· The child who picks up his toys without being asked
