What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I believe children need all the positive affirmations they can receive these days, especially our young boys. With that in mind, I sought to write a rhythmic story from the perspective of a father to his son. I believe young boys will receive and hold on to the messages of the story with the given dynamic.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Being an African American man, I know firsthand how underrepresented people of color are. This lack of diversity is magnified within children's literature, making it even harder on children when they're unable to see images that resemble themselves, friends, or family. Thus, all of my children's books will consist of characters of color. I believe this intentional inclusion of diversity ultimately benefits young readers from all walks of life.
