COLLEGE IS OVER, and Emma’s supposed to know what she’s doing. Her overbearing mother thinks she knows: law school and then the family firm. Too bad Emma doesn’t agree.
Meanwhile, her best friend Kim wants to set her up with the new guy in Kim’s office. This is a problem. Patrick is more alluring than Emma wants to admit—infuriatingly so.
Stuck between casebooks and a man who can’t seem to make up his mind, Emma jumps ship and heads for a summer study abroad in Ireland. Unfortunately, Ireland doesn’t make things any clearer, especially when she finds herself in bed with cute and studious Alex.
In the wake of her rebellions, Emma is left grasping for a sense of belonging.
Whatever she’s doing, and wherever she’s doing it, Emma will have to embrace the messiness of getting to know herself. Maybe for the first time.
Targeted Age Group:: 18-40
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
The first (very bad!) draft was a way for me to vent about how hard law school was; it was never meant to be a published book. But then, after years on and off the shelf, I decided to do the characters justice and find the stepping stones through the mess of being a people pleasing 20-something.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Emma is inspired by parts of my own life. Patrick has facets of an old boyfriend, but is very much his own "person". I wanted Emma to be able to rebel, and since not being perfect wasn't something she could do, an inappropriate boyfriend it was. The rest of the characters were people I either wanted as my friends, or have characteristics of real friends – people who are great at supporting one another.
