What inspired you to write your book?
A woman told me the story of when she was sleeping at the home of her grandchildren, and their hamster, which had been lost for days, climbed across her face while she was falling off to sleep. I knew I had to include that in a story!
About your Book:
Jimmy’s hamster is gone–without a trace. He didn’t latch the cage properly, and the beloved pet escaped. Overcome with guilt and sadness, the nine-year-old also has the sinking feeling that perhaps Mom was right when she said a pet would be too great a responsibility for him.
In a race against time and weather, Jimmy uses his vivid imagination and sound advice from the school nurse to try to lure the hamster back. His efforts help him cope, but will they work?
Book Genre: Children’s Fiction – Ages 8-12

How do you see writing a book in the Pet Genre as different from writing other genres of books?
A child’s love for his or her pet is so strong that when the pet is lost, the feelings of despair and grief are strong. In my book, this is compounded by the fact that the mother did not feel the boy would be responsible enough for a pet. He know that, and it adds guilt to his emotional state. Portraying that bond with the pet and the deep emotions of loss made writing this story different from my other books.
Advice to someone that is thinking about or currently working on a pet book
Find a story about pet ownership that has a unique slant or twist — like the aspect of the hamster climbing across the grandmother’s face. Ugh!
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
After pitching to an agent and finding out more about traditional publishing, I decided to remain independent. All of my books are available on Amazon for Kindle, and several are also in paperback.
I like the flexibility that Amazon gives me. For example, since May is National Pet Month, I’m having a give-away of the Kindle version of this book from Friday, May 16th through Sunday, May 18th.
Author Bio:
I love to create children’s stories, books and articles. I enjoyed reading as a child, and had the goal (not met) to read every book in the children’s section of my local library.
My books are written for the middle-grade audience, ages 8 to 12. Several were finalists in the state-wide Florida Royal Palm Literary Award competition.
Passionate about the e-format and the opportunities it gives to authors, I blogs at www.KidsEbookBestsellers.com. I compiles a weekly Top Ten bestseller list from the most popular e-book stores, and I features interviews with the authors.
I’m married to a professional ventriloquist and magician (the inspiration for my Maximum Magic trilogy), and we live in the Tampa Bay area.
