A fresh, hilarious take on the classic Cyrano de Bergerac from USA Today bestselling author Kilby Blades…
Jaded by the fakes and phonies she encounters working for the cheesy dating app, Hookupz, Zuri likes things that are real. She cooks real food from scratch, stops for real conversations with her neighbors, and savors beautifully written letters from her real Italian pen pal, Alessandro.
Agreeing to write letters for his company’s pen pal program turned out to be a mistake. Alessandro’s English is lacking. After two painful attempts to keep up, he strikes a deal: his reclusive brother, Nico, will write to Zuri on his behalf if Alessandro cleans up legal troubles with Nico’s ex.
Nico is discovering that Zuri might just be his ideal woman…except she thinks her deep connection is with his brother. Now Zuri is on her way to Italy—to meet Alessandro. And Nico is running out of time to win over the girl of his paper dreams before she finds out the truth.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to write a book about the love of paper, pen, and ink. I couldn’t have dreamt up a character like Zuri without the influence of my mother, paper enthusiast and letter
writer extraordinaire. When she downsized from her
house to an apartment, we discovered at least ten boxes of
correspondence, some dating back more than fifty years.
I can’t claim ten boxes, but I have at least three—letters
sent across state lines from summer camp friends in my
teenage years; letters on feather light air mail paper sent
from friends across oceans. Though some were written
before the advent of email, many were not. I still write and
receive letters. Moreso than ever, I splurge on elegant pens,
indulgent inks, and artisan paper.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Zuri is a tech worker who is stuck in a job she hates, beholden to student loan debt and other problems of adulting, but she dreams of visiting faraway places. Writing to a penpal transports her to a place she wishes she could visit. Then, of course, a stroke of luck (a well-deserved blessing from the universe) helps makes her dreams come true.
