What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I was inspired to write Life Insurance Consumer’s Guide in order to educate the person who either owns a life insurance policy or intends to purchase one soon. As an ex-agent, I saw the need for consumers to become more knowledgeable about the industry and process in order to become empowered to make more confident and wise decisions. This will save them a lot of money and grief in the long run by enabling them to obtain the best policy and price to perfectly fit their unique situations. I love helping others, especially when it comes to protecting their families…

Where Do YOU Fit In?
Practically everyone will benefit from the practical and timely knowledge outlined in this book, whether you already have a policy, plan to buy one soon, or are just in the “thinking about it” stages. So before we get started, let’s go ahead and review the following scenarios to find out just where you might fit in…
You will benefit greatly from this book if you fit into any of the following categories:
~ Are you in a marriage or domestic partner relationship?
If so, you’ll want the peace of mind in knowing that your spouse/partner will be financially protected in the event of an untimely death. This is of particular importance today with the number of working couples who wish to keep their homes and/or continue with their current lifestyle should their spouse/partner die.
~ Are you married with children and dual income earners?
Consider what would happen to the family’s lifestyle if their income was abruptly slashed due to the unfortunate death of one of the working parents. Raising children is a very costly proposition, especially when future college tuition or any special-needs children are in the picture.
~ Are you married with children and supported by a single provider?
It’s obvious that the breadwinner’s income replacement in the event of death is of extreme importance. But have you also considered the stay-at-home parent as well? Nowadays they can work just as hard as the breadwinner – the main difference is that he or she simply works inside the home rather than outside the home (and they don’t get to
knock off at 5)! What would happen if they were suddenly taken out of the picture? Who would manage the household, do the shopping, cleaning, accounting, cooking, laundry, taxiing, and looking after the kids? This is often overlooked – and yet so very important.
~ Are you a single parent?
This is a common phenomenon these days, and finances can be stretched tighter than ever. Never-the-less, the children’s needs are still as important as in the last paragraph. Even a smaller policy to start with is better than having nothing to protect your children should anything happen to you (and, as you’ll soon learn, may be more affordable than you think).
~ Are you a single individual with no kids?
Ask yourself the following questions: Is there an aging parent or sibling who is dependent on you? Do you have ample, readily-accessible funds set aside to cover your funeral costs, all the other final expenses and any accrued debts? Would there be anyone left “holding the bag” if you died tomorrow? (We’ll discuss these costs in an upcoming chapter.)
~ Are you a senior citizen?
Retirees should consider all of the scenarios mentioned to this point, as many of them apply to seniors as well. The difference is that senior policies tend to be smaller and devoted primarily to funerals and other final expenses. So, if you are a senior, or have retired parents, stay tuned because I’ve devoted a complete, enlightening chapter
exclusively for you.
~ Do you own a business?
What would happen to it if you were to die tomorrow? Are there other partners or key employees to be concerned with? What is your exit strategy?
~ Do you already have life insurance coverage?
When is the last time you reviewed your policy? An insurance review should be performed every year or two in order to correspond to your ever-changing life circumstances.
For example, consider the following:
~ Has your family grown since you initially purchased the life insurance policy?
~ Have your income and living expenses grown?
~ Have you purchased a new home recently?
~ Do you fully understand your existing policy and are you confident that it’s adequate and the best option for your current and future situation?
~ Do you have too little or too much coverage and can you comfortably afford the premiums?
~ Are you considering upgrading your policy or adding more coverage?
Reading this book prior to making any important decisions would be to your financial benefit…
~ Are you an insurance agent?
You will find this a great resource to review and brush up on your knowledge. You should also be able to gain some new perspectives and ideas. It would also make a great gift for a fellow associate, tech-savvy client, or even for use as a helpful sales tool to help prep your clients for an interview. Just be aware that I’ve written this for the consumer from an insider’s perspective and am brutally honest about the insurance profession.
~ Are you considering a new career in the insurance profession?
You will enjoy this frank and informative peek into the industry and be able to garner some unique lessons and tips that are not usually taught in the various life insurance courses.
~ Finally, are you someone who simply loves learning and wants to educate themselves about an industry that is so vital and prevalent in our society today?
You may also find this book to be the perfect gift for a parent, adult child or someone else you care about in order to help give them a better understanding when they embark on an insurance buying venture. Or, to help them to better understand the need to protect their loved ones with a life insurance policy (who might also happen to be your loved
ones as well)…
So, where DID you fit in?
If it was in any of the scenarios listed above, then this book is for you…
Now it’s time to flip the page and begin your educational journey to becoming better informed and more confident than the vast majority of insurance owners and shoppers. Congratulations for being proactive and taking action!
