What inspired you to write your memoir?
In February 2013, I was finally able to close a chapter on my life that was dragging me down; my stepfather was sentenced to seven years prison for rape and sexual abuse. It had taken me 30 years, but I’d managed to get it done. I think to spite my childhood, I turned out okay and wanted to share my story with other abuse survivors.
About your Book:
After being separated from my mother twice in my 10 short years of life, I was more than a little excited at the prospect of being reunited with her again. Unfortunately, my elation was to be short-lived when the visits to my bedroom started. Threatening to send me away again or turn the loaded gun he kept in my wardrobe on us all, he kept my silence.
It was to be another six years until I escaped the abuse of my mother’s husband and another 30 years before I was able to bring him to justice. Ironically, the one person that should have protected me and helped me fight to stop him, my mother, is still with him to this day.
How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
This story has been rejected by numerous publishers over the years and so I decided in 2011 that I would become Indie. I published my first fiction book: The Man of My Dreams and really haven’t looked back.
How do you see writing a Memoir as different from writing other genres of books?
It is very different because you are writing about yourself. I found it very hard to become emotionally attached to ‘me’ as it meant opening up and letting those emotions that had been pent up for so long out for the whole world to see.
Author Bio:
A survivor of sexual abuse, I have recently written the true account of my childhood, titled: Life After Hell: Surviving Sexual Abuse. I have tried to convey what happened to me as well as my journey to finally getting justice.
A lot of my own experiences have gone into my fictional works, especially my first book The Man of My Dreams. I created a vigilante vampire that rescues women and children from rapists and child molesters……
I’ve loved Vampires and the paranormal ever since I can remember and always envisaged myself writing a book or two on the subject! I have written 5 books in The Dream Series so far: The Man of my Dreams, Be Careful What You Wish For, The Chosen One, Succubus: An Erotic Companion and A Match Made in Hell. All Paranormal Romance novels with Vampires(of course) as well as a bit of blood and gore thrown in and the 4th one is slightly on the erotic side! These characters are very close to my heart and I hope you will come to love them as much as I have.
I’ve also written my first Contemporary Romance trilogy which will be released in July 2014. The “Someone to Love Me” series will consist of 3 novellas: Undeserving, Unforgiving and Understanding – plus a new adult romance titled Entwined that will be out in September 2014. I hope you enjoy them.
I recently published a short story (Why Won’t Someone Help Me?) about my health issues and the trouble with getting diagnosed or treated for invisible illnesses.
