How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
This isn’t a contemporary fantasy, which seems to be the trend at the moment. It has a very detailed world which on the surface looks like fantasy, but if you dig deeper, there are hints of an ancient technologically advanced society. Journey To Landaran is the first book of what will be a five book saga following the twins as circumstances force them to join in the fight between two nations, ruled by father and daughter, both powerful mages. Good and evil aren’t always what they seem. Beauty can hide ugliness, and what seems ugly and cantankerous on the outside can hide purity and vulnerability. For me, the world is just as important as the characters, and I try to transport the reader there.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
WRITE! That’s probably the single most important piece of advice. I don’t remember who said it, but they say it takes over 10,000 hours practicing a skill to become proficient in it. Of course it also helps to have feedback, so I also recommend that all writers join some kind of critique group where people will give honest opinions to help their work. Read in the genre that you intend to write. Study the masters as well as current popular writers to figure out what they’re doing well, how they’ve achieved success. Know your grammar and spelling. These are your tools, just as a paintbrush and paint are tools to the artist.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I’ve always had a fascination with twins, and paranormal powers. The idea for this book came long before the current craze with YA paranormal fiction, so it’s really just a coincidence that I happened to finish it and published it now. The idea stemmed from the concept that one twin always knows what’s happening with the other, their pain, their joy, their sorrow. And the other twin? He’s a hot-headed firestarter who can start fires with his mind.
