About Xavier Neal:
I have been excited to write since I learned how. I spent most of my time in middle school writing Fan Fiction before working on my first novel at sixteen which I self published at 18. Now, I am lucky enough to have grown into a writer who writes whatever the voices in her head suggest.
What inspires you to write?
I have always loved to write. I love to tell stories and share them. The reactions of readers, the fun expressions, the lively interaction of it all is what keeps me wanting to always move forward.
Tell us about your writing process.
This varies. The voices appear at any time of day or night. Sometimes I make notes, sometimes I have to sit and write pages. I am definitely a keyboard writer, but always make notes in my phone. I enjoy music while writing. I also enjoy giving my books a soundtrack.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I do both. We talk. We argue. My characters wake up, interrupt my showers, demand we fight in the car. They are very lively, very loud, and not understanding about the life I have outside of them.
What advice would you give other writers?
Always remember WHY you started writing and WHAT keeps you going.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I self publish and publish with a small indie publisher. I love both. They both have perks. My suggestion as a new author is decide what it is you want to pour your efforts into and how much are you willing to spend. Make sure you are aware of the costs, the pitfalls, and the struggles that come with marketing yourself, buying covers, and ect. Look at all angles, talk to other authors and then make a choice.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think we are headed to a good place. I think we are headed towards a less flooded market with those who wanted a “get rich quick” way of making money into an author filled and focused world. I think the publishing world is going to be fun and changing quickly.
