About Vicki Batman:
Award-winning and Amazon best-selling author, Vicki Batman, has sold many romantic comedy works to the True magazines, several publishers, and most recently, two romantic comedy mysteries to The Wild Rose Press. She is a member of Romance Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and several writing groups. An avid Jazzerciser. Handbag lover. Mahjong player. Yoga practitioner. Movie fan. Book devourer. Chocoaholic. Best Mom ever. And adores Handsome Hubby. Most days begin with her hands set to the keyboard and thinking “What if??”
What inspires you to write?
Sometimes, someone will say something and my head goes bing! Sometimes, I sit down and say I want to write a story about such and such and bing! the story takes off. I love to write stories about a guy and girl getting together and the funny stuff that makes it happen.
Tell us about your writing process.
Every day, I sit down after my work out and do a little social media work. Check the email. Then I open up the document I’m working on and begin. I’m a Pantser, I write by the seat of my pants. I like the style because it feels fresh to me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Maybe… Since I’m a self-admitted Pantser (see above), what comes out the fingertips is what the characters say. I do begin by writing a lot of dialogue and then later setting, descriptions, conflict, and emotion.
What advice would you give other writers?
Stay with it! I once received a judge’s critique with these words “Why are you writing?” I cried and emailed for two days. Then I said no one will determine my destiny. I got back to work.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I publish work depending on what it is. I’ve sold short stories to the True magazines. I’ve indie pubbed stories with epublishers and in indie pubbed anthologies. I’ve traditionally published books. Just depends on the work.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Just like the people that inhabit this world, there’s a place for all kinds of books. I’m indie and traditionally published, what is now called a hybrid.
