What inspires you to write?
I love learning, and I leave teaching. I get inspired by the ability to share my message of inspiration, personal achievement and the love of learning with others.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’ve tried it all, and what I’ve found to work for me is a series of brief brainstorming sessions combined with an outline to start the process for a new book. Then, I continue to brainstorm ideas on what to include in each chapter of the book. Usually around that point, I get so inspired I can’t help but start writing the book.
I write for a minimum of 5 minutes a day. It may not sound like much, but you’d be amazed how far you can go and how much you can achieve if you just do a little bit every single day. Yep, even on Holidays!
What advice would you give other writers?
Start right now, where you are with what you know and what you have. Every successful author started at 0, with no experience, no published books, and no guarantees of success. Once you get started, make the commitment to continue every day for at least 5 minutes working toward your dream. If you do that EVERY day, you will find it impossible to evade success for more than a few years at most.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
After six years of struggling to find an agent or a publisher with no success, I finally decided to self publish my books on Kindle in early 2012. Within 12 months, I had my first $12,000+ month from Kindle eBook royalties alone. Needless to say, I’m an avid self publisher now, and I’ve never looked back. I only wish I had said, “screw you” to the traditional publishing system sooner and self published my books a few years earlier.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It’s amazing! There’s never been a better time to be a writer, an author, an entrepreneur, or a publisher. We now have the ability to publish almost instantaneously and reach millions of readers all over the world. And, we have amazing word processors and technologies to help use turn our ideas into reality faster than ever before. We live in a magical time for authors.
