What inspires you to write?
Living in Detroit, everything about this city inspires you to write. Good & bad days, give you muse, energy and power to put your fingers on a keyboard and tap out a story only the essence of Motown could bring!
Tell us about your writing process.
I love to sit in bed with my laptop and write, with chocolate and a lot of noise; meaning I need the television on and music playing on my phone and sometimes even a video on Youtube playing to actually concentrate to write. Chaos is my peace.
I'm a pantser, so I can rap out a storyline fast and then go back and fill in the blanks with deeper descriptions.
I also enjoy handwriting so I bought a digital pen to record my strokes so I don't miss a moment of writing everyday!
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen to them. They're pretty durn interesting and I want to make sure my reader loves them as much as I do.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don't stop; even when it feels like you aren't selling. Keep promoting, writing and marketing.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I'm a control freak. Independent publishing has been right up my alley since inception in 2000. Now after 40 books I still enjoy the control I get when I publish a book.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It's very broad, but I'm hoping I can stay on my game and bring new and interesting things to the forefront. I'm open to new stuff, but I'm not a person that will jump on every bandwagon. I pick what I like and what I'm capable of and make it interesting for readers, just like me.
