Author Bio:
As the Group Procurement Manager for a large plant hire company with branches in South-Africa and Mozambique, she’s the poster child for pure, driven ambition, organisation and the never ending search for perfection…and although she’s been labeled as difficult, demanding and often referred to as a ‘control freak’, it is the ‘after hours’ version of herself that she loves the most…this is where she dreams up stories …by the dozen; sitting on the ‘stoep’ on their farm in South-Africa, dreaming in the shower, riding off road bike with her husband and sons or meeting her characters in her imaginary world as she’s on the treadmill or the rower…
She has been writing stories since she was 12 years old, and having lived all over most of the country, and some parts of the world, she has finally come to the conclusion that her ultimate dream job would be to become a full time writer…and letting people everywhere fall in love with all the stories and characters in her worlds…so now, at the wise old age of 30 (wink wink) …she has decided to pursue this dream with every ounce of tenacious, foot-stomping determination that she is known for…
What inspires you to write?
People and life!
Such interesting things…I’m fascinated with people’s thought processes…I always want to know why they do or say or react in certain ways. So when I meet a really interesting person, a character starts to develop in my mind…until they become a person to me.
Tell us about your writing process.
mmm…a little of both – I have a whole heap of characters that live in my ‘writing world’, but only once I meet a match for one that already exists, does their story start to form…and once I have their story, I start writing, and then it just comes – like it’s real and it really happened…that sounds strange out loud! – but I don’t know how else to describe it.
Only when their story if basically written, then I start colouring in with details and research.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
hahaha…I should have read this one first before saying I sound strange…so glad I’m not the only one!
yes, my characters are real people, and if i’m stuck or confused about where the character is taking me, I have to take a minute and ‘talk to them’ so we can straighten out where we’re going…
What advice would you give other writers?
Oh wow…um, could someone send me some advice please!
Advice from a newbie – put on your big girl panties, close your eyes, take a breath and JUST DO IT! Regret is worse than anything else.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Had my ‘ah ha’ moment this year…
Though I’ve been writing since forever, I’ve only recently gotten the nerve to publish – after life body-slammed me into awakening!
2014 started on a high note…then went to ultimate low and to ultimate high and then low…until I had to take a step back and just say…wtf!? and then it all became clear and i just leaped…
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
That’s a though one…but ultimately, I think that you and me as the reader should be able to decide for ourselves what we want to read…I’m glad that there is a wider variety of books available for anyone that is interested.
