About Stacey Gerhart:
Dr. Stacey Gerhart is a veterinarian and children's fiction author. She believes every kid can be a superhero in training for a sustainable planet when reading for pleasure about animals, environment and nature. Her snappy and endearing characters and well-informed wildlife leave you cheering to protect their habitats. And nobody knows the stories of the animals like Pippin— a girl on a mission to protect the baby animals on her favorite river and wherever she goes.
What inspires you to write?
A love of nature and a desire to spark a love of nature and animals in young readers.
Tell us about your writing process.
I create stories in my head when something in nature sparks my interest. Then, I create a basic written outline over many weeks.
Finally, I write up to 1500 words a day, usually in the afternoon.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Absolutely. That's great fun!
What advice would you give other writers?
Pay attention to life and stories around you. Write, write, write.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I went to a yoga/journaling event that inspired me to self-publish my book.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Self-publishing and traditional publishing will coexist.
