About Skylar Nightingale:
In the past, I wrote to release my inner-self, to generate ideas and self-growth. Today I write to expand dimensions of reality, to give readers another world to delve into, and to entertain.
What inspires you to write?
I am inspired by things that are going on around me. A song might inspire me, a news report, or a touching story from someone’s life.
Tell us about your writing process.
I sit down and type my ideas in to Microsoft word or write in a notebook. If I am resting and I get an idea, I immediately get up and write it down on the nearest piece of paper, so I will not forget it. I have also started a spreadsheet of characteristics for each character.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I don’t listen or talk to them, but I think about them and their situations, playing it out in my mind.
What advice would you give other writers?
Sometimes writing can be frustration when the words do not come, but write regardless. Write about anything that you are thinking or feeling. Eventually it will start to flow.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I self-published my book because I continued getting rejection notices. I decided I wanted to be published no matter what, so I took the avenue of self-publishing. I would advise new authors to explore traditional publishing as well as self-publishing. Weigh your options and decide what will work best for you.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think there are always going to be name publishers, but I think self-publishing will continue to increase as authors continue to write.
