About Sheridan Cooper:
Sheridan Cooper is an ex journalist, mother of one and a wife. She’s passionate about books and travelling. She enjoys watching movies, social media and listening to music.
What inspires you to write?
My husband, overheard conversations, music, events and life challenges.
Tell us about your writing process.
I always write an outline first using scrivener, then let my imagination run wild. I don’t create character sketches before or during my writing process because I get new ideas daily.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen and talk to my characters at the same time. Getting to know my characters and living in their world is what I do, sometimes I even forget that it’s fiction.
What advice would you give other writers?
Persistence is key. Write daily, the more you write the more you become perfect and never give up. Expect less, you’ll get more. Money should never be the motivating factor. Most of people get into writing with higher expectations, thinking of it as a get rich quick scheme. Writing is an art and talent natured over time.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I prefer self publishing because I get to learn the challenges first hand though some authors cannot take constructive criticism positively. Both self publishing and publishing with a publisher are good and it depends on the author. Most indie authors are not marketers and its hard for your book to become a bestseller.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Ebooks are taking over with the introduction of kindle, nook and tablets. I’m a traditional reader and I I have to feel the smell of my book but I also enjoy my kindle.
