What inspires you to write?
Writing is therapeutic for me. My inspiration comes from my ability to release the stress, joys, and disappointments encouraged on this journey called life in A healthy manner through the art of creative penmanship.
Tell us about your writing process.
Honestly I just flow. Outlines do not work for me because they require too much thought & therefore inhibit my creativity. I just pick up the pen & start writing or pick up my IPhone or IPad & start writing as the ideas flood my mind.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I “listen” to my characters in terms of visualization. I can “hear” their voice tones, accents, & mannerisms in my head. I don’t talk to them though…that’s a little weird to me.
What advice would you give other writers?
My advice is to build a readership prior to publishing your book. Blogging is a good way to accomplish this. It will give you an edge when marketing your book because readers will already be familiar with your writing style & ability.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I have self-published with companies in the past & was disappointed with the results. I moved over to a traditional publishing press because of the network of authors & support.
I encourage new authors to read the fine print before enterta contract with a self-publishing company; they usually have packages but then have an ala carte marketing package so you end up spending an exuberant amount of money unnecessarily.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think more people will be moving to self publishing on platforms such as CreateSpace. It’s cheaper & easier. The downside to this is the difficulty in getting in on major retail outlets by choosing this publishing route.
