About Sharon Lopez:
My name is Sharon Lopez. I was born in Derry New Hampshire. I now live in Arizona. I have wanted to go to London since I did a report on it in elementary school, so that would be a dream of mine.
I like to read as well as write. Some of my favorite books are The Infernal Device Series, The Mortal instruments series both by Cassandra Clare, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, The Leech series by james crawford (he goes by lower case letters). I am also a fan of Edgar Allan Poe, and Shakespeare.
I enjoy writing tremendously. I began writing as a way to let my emotions out in a constructive and helpful way, and then things grew from there. My fifth grade teacher was my first encouraging factor in my writing. In high school, my creative writing teacher was instrumental in inspiring my wanting to become a writer full time. I wrote my first play in fifth grade, and since then, have written several short stories as well as poetry. I wrote my first book, Life is Funny That Way in 1995. In 2014 I was inspired again; this time by JMCB word’s and way he lives life. My second book entitled The World Inside Stephanie’s Head was written in 2014; as was my third book Destiny’s Mark. I recently finished the sequel to The World Inside Stephanie’s head, and it should be published in July of 2015. My books span many genres, though best to say they are action fiction. Many things happen within my books. In my books dreams are found, love is discovered, adventure is had, and betrayals happen.
Besides writing books, I also have a series named Sl Creative Works on Channillo. I also help other authors to get the word out about their books through my Author’s Round Table chats. These chats are available on my YouTube channel, as well as my website.
What inspires you to write?
I have had different inspirations throughout my life. My first was my fifth grade teacher, Mr. Schwinden. The next was my high school creative writing teacher, Mr. Hutchings. The most recent inspiration was from J. C. B. His words were instrumental in influencing me to start publishing my work.
Tell us about your writing process.
When an idea for a story comes to me whether by dream, a conversation I had,etc I will write the idea down. From there I write and see where the story takes me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
For me I become my characters; I feel their feelings, and see what they see.
What advice would you give other writers?
Be open enough to change what you must without changing who you are as a writer.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I say explore everything. If you get rejected through traditionally publishers, than self- publish. There are so many options out there. I went the self- publishing route because I wanted the say in what happened with my books.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The future is anyone’s guess, but what I would like to see happen is more places willing to carry independent author’s books. Right now there are limitations on where independent authors can be found which only keeps readers from finding good quality stories.
