About Shannon Bell:
Shannon Bell holds a BA in Creative Writing at the University of Central Florida. She resides in Riverview, FL with her husband and daughter and is always talking about creatures that go bump in the night. As a lover of vampire fiction, her first book, “The Mortal One” was something that had to be created.
What inspires you to write?
I have so many characters talking to me and in order to quiet them down, I write their stories!
Tell us about your writing process.
I know where I’m going to start and finish with a book. As for the process of how to get from Point A to Point B, it’s up to the characters. I listen to what they tell me. I tried outlining, but found that it does not work for me at all. I do use a whiteboard from time to time to keep timelines straight, however.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen to my characters. They talk to me all the time and my friends think I need to be admitted to the psych ward.
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep at it and write every day. Even if you don’t write your story, write something. Get used to putting words on the page.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I love to market and so it was a natural for me to go Indie (self-publish). New authors have to find what works for them. Explore both sides. Don’t choose a traditional publisher to get out of marketing because you will have to do your own no matter what.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think there are going to be a lot more Indie authors and paperbacks are not going to be as popular now that there are so many e-readers on the market.
