About Scarlet Fox:
Scarlet Fox is the pen name of a well known author who prefers to remain anonymous. She is an unrepentant submissive who lives in Las Vegas part of the time and travels frequently. She lives and travels with her husband and enjoys writing, riding her bike, watching birds, and wild sex.
While many of Scarlet's books tend to focus on bondage and dominant/submissive relationships, she also writes about lesbian experiences, cuckolds, and anything that turns her on. The Leather Bound Journal series are books taken from her actual journal and chronicle the life she and her husband have built around their D/s relationship.
She has won the only two erotica contests she has entered and plans to release a number of books in 2020. Writing erotic fiction, as well as her own true life stories, has become a passion for her and she is intent on bringing high quality writing to the world of erotica.
You can follow Scarlet on twitter @sfoxerotica or email her at scarletfoxerotica@gmail.com. She is willing to do commissioned private work as well and has a number of very satisfied customers.
All of her work to date has been published by Chained Hearts Publishing.
What inspires you to write?
My amazing relationship with my husband and a love for the written word.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Anne Rice, Cormac McCarthy, and Hemingway.
Tell us about your writing process.
I type like mad, take occasional breaks to spend time with my husband, and edit when I can't think of anything else to write.
Anything over 15,000 words I usually outline using dynalist.io and anything under that I just write until it's done.
I find that it's voice that drives me. I find a character and get into their voice and become them. Then I am driven to hear their story. I love reading the story as I write it and wondering what will happen to my characters next.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Oh, I definitely listen to them. I live inside their heads, how could I not hear their thoughts. They write the book, I just type.
What advice would you give other writers?
Study long and hard. Keep getting better. If you aren't selling stories, then get better. It's not really a game of luck. It's about putting in the work. If your book doesn't sell, then shelve it and learn some more about writing. Then write a better one. Rinse and repeat until you are a really good writer and your books will start to sell.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I couldn't not write. It's in my blood. I published many of my books with traditional publishers under my real name, but with erotica I work closely with Chained Hearts Publishing for now and help promote my own stuff. It's very satisfying to write exactly what I want and get instant reader feedback and see the sales happen.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the industry is quite good right now, but the squeeze is coming. The titans, especially Amazon, will start to squeeze more money from authors if they see that we are making enough money that we can still pay the rent if they squeeze us harder, they will. It's what they do. Corporations are driven only by profits. Those profits come from us, and they will get everything they can out of us.
