About S.D. Smith:
S.D. Smith is a new novelist from southwestern Pennsylvania. A graphic designer by education, S.D. Smith has been writing stories since high school. It’s only been in the past two years that she has begun to take her imagination seriously. An avid fiction reader, some of her favorite authors are Anne Rice, Charlaine Harris, Neil Gaiman, James Patterson and William Shakespeare.
She is proud to present her debut novel “The Secrets of Slade Sanders”. Writing each of her novels is a long, difficult journey but it’s all she wants to do. Creating these stories is her idea of fun, among other things.
When not writing she has a weakness for video games, movies, TV, traveling to different places and of course, cheeseburgers.
S.D. Smith is currently hard at work on her third novel
What inspires you to write?
My constant daydreaming inspires me. I’m always telling myself little stories, just to entertain myself. Eventually I started writing them down. I write down my ideas, it’s like keeping a journal for me now.
I also watch a lot of documentaries. I keep educating myself in practical ways and that has been a never ending
source of inspiration.
Tell us about your writing process.
I work from an outline. I fully outline the story to make sure I have enough story . I also do character profiles, all completed before I even dare to write any part of the story.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I take them into consideration. I talk to them. I practice whole conversations in my head over and over again until I get something I can’t let go of.
What advice would you give other writers?
I am a new novelist myself….anyone got any advice for me?
I will say, never ever give up.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I am self-publishing my books right now. I am still applying to literary agents. I haven’t gotten very
many rejections but silence is the same, right?
That’s okay, I will just keep trying.
I want to get my work out there. I want people to read it and tell me what they think. I welcome it.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Thank the stars for ebooks and digital publishing. This opens doors and gives people a chance
where there was none before. This is an opportunity and good for everyone.
