Rose Francis enjoys writing stories most would not consider mainstream.
Finding a lack of stories she’d like to read available, she decided to just start writing them.
She has been writing from a very early age and is thrilled to have a platform that allows her to bring her tales to the public.
What inspires you to write?
The idea of reaching someone who will appreciate the ride I want to take them on.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am a mix of an outliner and a seat-of-the-pants writer. I get a basic idea of where I want to go, and sometimes I sketch out characters or plot turns, but ultimately, my characters end up taking me for a ride, and I let them.
I rarely have a solid outline from beginning to end that I stick to. A lot of times, I have only worked out part one or so before I start writing, hoping my characters take it from there. Sometimes, I have to stop and regroup, and plot out the next set of stops, but surprises await around every corner.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Absolutely!
What advice would you give other writers?
Whatever you do, keep going. No matter what naysayers have to say (friends, family, bad reviews/feedback), if you have something in you that wants to bloom, let it.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I was ready to release my work to the world, and grew impatient with waiting for a publisher. I have learned a lot since publishing my first book, and I am quite happy to have self-published, ultimately. I love all the control I have! It’s up to me what comes out, and when.
Feel free to explore both options, and do what’s right for you. I am actually considering becoming a hybrid writer (submitting some work to publishers, while self-publishing others).
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The future of book publishing looks quite bright for independent authors, considering the present has already given a lot of us a chance we had not dreamed. It is now possible to make a living as a writer without being a big name!
