About Roni Roth Beshears, EdD, RDN:
Dr. Roni Roth Beshears is a graduate of Columbia University, Teachers College (Ed.D.) and Syracuse University (BS, cum laude). She is an advanced level registered dietitian nutritionist and certified health and wellness coach.
What inspires you to write?
My personal story about being overweight as a child led to my interest in foods and nutrition at an early age and proved to be my vocation and avocation over time. The creation of my first illustrated children’s book for children who are overweight occurred while taking a picture book art class at the Kansas City Art Institute.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write from my personal experiences as an overweight child. Chubby Roni is the main character. As a registered dietitian/nutritionist, I offer readers a professional response to the situations encountered by Roni and others in the story.
What advice would you give other writers?
Writing children’s books has been a journey with lots of learning along the way.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I self-published out of necessity. Little interest in books for overweight children. Unfortunately!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Book publishing will always be vital.
What genres do you write?: Non-fiction illustrated children’s books on weight management, health and wellness
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
