About Ron Briglia:
I studied writing at Sacramento State University under the esteemed author Richard Bankowsky, himself a student of the legendary Robert Penn Warren. I presently work and live in West Sacramento, CC. Crystal’s Ball is my first novel.
What inspires you to write?
Writing acts as a kind of outlet to release feelings and emotions inside me, almost a kind of therapy in an attempt to somehow organize the chaos that is the modern world.
Tell us about your writing process.
I both outline the book ahead of time but at the same time let the story take me where it goes. Strangely enough, I have even had my fictional characters inform me they wish the story to go in a certain direction and I usually adhere to their wishes. Also, character can change during the process so I have a venal idea where the characters are going to go but sometimes they surprise even me
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
As I cited above, my characters speak to me, and I usually listen
What advice would you give other writers?
Write, write, write! Writing improves only by doing, and of course reading as much as is humanly possible. But the most important thing is being able to deal with rejection and criticism, they are part of the game. Even Grisham’s first book wa turned down by 25 publishing houses; you must have a thick skin
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My lifelong dream was not to be a movie star or be adored by millions; my lifelong dream wa to hold a book I had written in my hands. Dream accomplished!!!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
These days almost anyone can publish a book so quality is going to suffer as the field grows
