About Robin M. Farella:
I am a resident of Southern California and a Chicago native. I am a superfan of fantasy and historical fiction stories. When I'm not writing, I love to visit the National Parks with my family. I also am an avid crafter. I have two dogs and one cat who I consider my ghost writer because she is always by my side when I am writing.
What inspires you to write?
I love to share my stories with others. I love to share those experience with others that enjoy the same kind of genres I love.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Anne Easter Smith, Karen Harper, Laura Ingalls Wilder
Tell us about your writing process.
I come up with an idea and brainstorm to build a world that my characters will live in. Then I create an outline of what I want each chapter to be about. This is not always how it will turn out however. Most times it's just a guide as I come up with new ideas while I am writing. I share my chapters with my two best friends because I know that they will be completely honest with me. Finally, I edit the book and then send it over to a friend who is an English teacher. She makes sure that the grammar is correct and that it has proper sentence structure, etc.. After that I send it to upload and self publish.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I do listen to my characters. Sometimes they tell me that their path needs to be different, so I try to go the route they are telling me they need to go.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I had the idea for my first book a few years ago. I wrote the story and set it aside for awhile. Once I finished it, I sent query letters to literally dozens of agents. I got either an answer of no thank you or no answer at all. I decided then to self publish.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe that a lot of authors are going to go the self publishing route. Many authors such as myself, and even some who are award-winning best sellers are denied publishing deals for some of their stories. I understand that there are a lot of authors and stories out there. Agents need to be picky, so do publishers. However, some authors would rather get their story out there and then hire marketing agencies or the like to promote their books. It costs money, yes, but it still is an easier process.
What genres do you write?: Epic Fantasy
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
