About Rita Sawyer:
Rita Sawyer writes contemporary romances and romantic comedies. Her stories vary in heat level from sweet to sizzling, but she hopes they all have at least a hint of humor. What good is romance without a little laughter? If you enjoy family and friend based series then you've found the right author.
Rita is a Massachusetts native, who did brief stints in Georgia and Maine. Now she lives about an hour from Boston with her husband. She has always been an avid reader, mostly romance novels (though she says she’ll read anything).
What inspires you to write?
I'm inspired by a lot of things. Sometimes a song or movie will set something off and I'll find a great idea from it. Other times I could be sitting in traffic or taking a shower and suddenly and idea for a great series will strike. This is why there are notepads and pens in every room of my house, in my car, and in my purse. You never know when an idea will just pop into your head.
Tell us about your writing process.
I consider myself a hybrid author. I don't really plot out my stories, but I do have chapter points that I try to follow. They keep me on track. Well most of the time.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I definitely listen to my characters. They have no problem telling me when I'm taking a wrong turn and complaining until I go back and changes things to make them happy.
What advice would you give other writers?
Enjoy yourself. If you're not enjoying your story chance are readers wont either. So have fun and write what you want to read.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I started my publishing journey with a couple of small publishers. I've learned a lot and have over the past few years have released a few titles on my own. I'm still interested in joining a few publishing houses, but I really enjoy having the complete control over my indie published books. As for advise I can only say go with your gut. Everyone has to do what they are most comfortable with.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
As a reader I hope to continue to see more great stories in a variety of genres. As a writer I hope to be on of those author putting out great stories.
