About Rinat Klein:
I was born in Minsk, within the confines of the Soviet Union. When I was just 13 years old, my family made the life-altering decision to immigrate to Israel. The driving force behind this move was the anti-Semitism that had become an unfortunate part of our existence in the communist regime.
Today, I find myself residing in a serene community settlement nestled in the northern region of the State of Israel. Our settlement is a tranquil oasis enveloped by lush greenery and intimately connected to the wonders of nature.
During my leisure hours, I derive immense pleasure from tending to the garden, nurturing an array of vibrant vegetables and aromatic spices. Additionally, my days are filled with the delightful company of four feline companions. These cats have made our neighborhood their home, gracefully traversing the boundary between my yard and that of our neighbors, and allowing us the privilege of caring for them.
What inspires you to write?
For as long as my memory serves, I've been an ardent book lover. In those formative years, I devoured every literary treasure that graced the shelves of my parents' library. By the time I turned 13, I was determined to fund my own reading habit, so I embarked on a journey of labor and earning, all in the name of acquiring books.
Writing, too, beckoned to me from a young age. Yet, my initial attempts at crafting a complete work were marked by frustration and unfinished stories. It wasn't until the arrival of my eldest son that I finally achieved the milestone I had yearned for – the completion of my very first book, titled "Black Seagull."
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I have a wide-ranging taste in books, delving into almost every genre. However, my truest joys lie in historical novels, thrilling mysteries, and cross-generational family sagas.
Among the authors who've left a lasting impression on me, Boris Akunin's "Pandorin's Box" series stands out. When it comes to female authors, Maya Arad holds a special place in my heart. For inspiration, I often turn to the works of Italian writers like Elsa Morante, Elena Ferrante, and Natalia Ginzburg.
Tell us about your writing process.
I find my inspiration to write when I'm surrounded by nature, breathing in the crisp mountain air and the gentle sea breeze. However, reality doesn't always align with our desires, and there are times when I'm compelled to write amidst the hustle and bustle of cafes or in the midst of changing diapers and feeding my son, who came into this world alongside my book.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
It's not just a matter of creating characters for me; I often find myself engaged in conversations with them, occasionally even debating, getting frustrated, and playfully threatening to remove them from the story if they keep testing my patience.
What advice would you give other writers?
I'm not in a position to give advice. I believe that those who love to write should find their muse and not be discouraged by writing barriers.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My book was originally published in Hebrew through a traditional publisher. However, given my belief that a broader audience can connect with it, I made the decision to translate it into English and release it independently on Amazon.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe that over time, digital books will continue to gain prominence in the book market, while printed books, though unlikely to disappear entirely, may see a gradual decline in the future.
What genres do you write?: family saga, thriller, historical fiction
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
