Rebecca Lund Belliston is the author of the romantic suspense novel, Sadie, its sequel, Augustina, and a new trilogy entitled Citizens of Logan Pond. Rebecca also composes piano and vocal music. What inspires you to write?
I’m inspired by real people in hard situations. I’m a believer in the power of the human spirit to overcome tough times stronger and better for it.
Tell us about your writing process.
I tend to outline a lot in the beginning and then let the story take whatever direction it needs to. I love using Scrivener. It’s been wonderful for writing. I do extensive character sketches before I write, including gathering pictures, background stories, and family relationships.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I talk to my characters (and listen to them) all day long. Help!
What advice would you give other writers?
Read. Write. Study. Repeat. Oh, and be patient with yourself. Any goal worth having takes time and perseverance.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My first novel is an LDS romance (religious), and so I submitted it to the largest publisher of that genre. I was thrilled when they accepted it. I self-published the sequel have been pleased with that whole process. With this new series which isn’t religious, I shopped it around to publishers and chose Crescent Moon Press. I would advise authors to explore all publishing avenues, especially some of the roads less traveled. You’ll know when it’s right.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it is exciting to see so many books coming to readers. I’m anxious for genres which aren’t your typical genre to finally find a voice. There are going to be so many options for readers to find the perfect book for them in the future, and that thrills me.
