About Ramakrishna Reddy:
Ramakrishna Reddy is an award-winning speaker who has won more than 25 speaking contests comprising from entertaining to inspiring speeches. He has won contests based out of India as well as from United States. He regularly speaks to audiences from a few dozens to few 100s comprising of corporate, student and business audiences. He works for a Multinational alternatively out of India and the United States.
What inspires you to write?
The thought that I can reach out and help someone with whom I do not have a connection inspires me. Even if I am gone, my words will stay and help someone, somewhere and that is a pretty cool thing.
Tell us about your writing process.
If I have to summarize in one word. It is called ‘Iteration’. First I write out what I want to tell.
But then I look at and wonder –
1) Why will this make sense to my reader
2) How to make it make it more clearer to my reader
3) Will it really help my reader.
I iterate it numerous times till it makes complete sense. I have done the same with my speeches as well. It takes time but gives your a great product. It really works!
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I am not yet into fiction. All my books are in non-fiction and only related to my niche – Public Speaking. However, I am planning to write a fiction related to my niche. It will make it more interesting!
What advice would you give other writers?
I am a non-fiction writer. If someone is looking for advice in non-fiction front, I would recommend you to first imagine the ideal person who might benefit out of your work. For example, I imagine a person who is a beginner in public speaking and always keep him or her in mind while writing. When I am struck on how to proceed, I put myself into that person’s shoes and ask – “does this make sense?” This has worked for me. I think it might work for you as well.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I think it was a confluence of two things. I discovered a passion for public speaking. It was competing and competing and making myself better at it for last 4 to 5 years. I had this urge to share my voice with the world. This was one track.
On the other track, I got bored of corporate world, and I wanted to explore the options of passive income. I am not rich so I cannot real estate assets to create passive income. When I was exploring youtube videos, affiliate marketing, I came across amazon kindle ebooks options. This was the other track.
When I combined both the tracks, boom I started writing books!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it is going to last for a long long time. Even with the advent of digital world, books are going to there. However, ebook reader base will increase. Come on – I can just have all the information I need in my smart phone though a kindle application. How cool is that?
