She is fond of setting her stories~which range from the sweet to the paranormal to the erotic~on location in South Carolina and Texas, but its anybody’s guess as to what the genre will be!
What inspires you to write?
Any and every thing. I’ve been moved to grab a pen and paper by a line in a song, a name of a street, or even the perfect walk around the neighborhood, slightly overcast and cool yet sunny while birds chirp in the distance and rustle in the trees sets my imagination running.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m definitely a pantser. When I get an idea it often has a start and an end, but only the characters know what will happen between the two points.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Sometimes they are eerily quiet. This is when I get restless, when they don’t talk. Even when I’m too busy to write, hearing their soft murmurs helps keep me sane.
What advice would you give other writers?
If you have a story to tell, then tell it. Don’t worry about cliches or what’s popular right now. By the time you finish righting, the trends could’ve changed, so write for you. Then edit, and edit again.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I saw a contest for a publishing house and while I was talking about possibly entering it with a partially finished story I’d been working on, another house approached me. Unfortunately, that ended up being a year to learn lessons, but now I’m self-published and happier than I’ve ever been.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It’s changing daily. More authors need to slow down, though. Quality over quantity. Flesh out your stories, read and re-read, get them properly edited (and not by a friend). We have to start taking responsibility.
