What inspires you to write?
The desire to create some art form must be in my DNA. I paint, write music, etc. but I’ve always had the drive to write. it’s more of a passion. It’s not so much inspiration, but rather a way of showing the world from my eyes. And, it’s almost something I must do.
Tell us about your writing process.
Once, the book gets going, I do create an outline. I use a database that I’ve designed. It includes fields for the synopsis of the chapter as well as for the time the chapter took place and the characters in the chapter. It keeps things in order and prevents errors with sequence. There are special fields for notes, the number of re-writes, and a ranking of the strength or weakness of the chapter.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I concoct a character in my mind, and then they write the dialogue.
What advice would you give other writers?
Just write as much as you can, as often as you can.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I attempted to go the traditional route, but the more I learned about the success independent authors, the more I leaned toward self publishing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The industry has completely changed in the last few years. There are many literary agents that have simply closed shop. A lot of people in the publishing field will be looking for new jobs. And like everything else, publishing will be centered more on niche markets.
