What inspires you to write?
Peter Buckley has always enjoyed creative writing, even as a young eight year old, writing a short story at school about ninjas that his teacher kept and reminded him of some 15 years later when they bumped into each other while Peter visited family. He believes that inspiration for a story can come from anywhere and will make note of ideas in a note book he carries around with him. Peter Buckley has always enjoyed reading horror novels from great authors such as Steven King, James Herbert and Clive Barker. A fan of Horror movies he often watches a film to help him get into the frame of mind needed to twist reality.
Tell us about your writing process.
When asked about how he comes up with his ideas and writes, Peter will happily explain that once he has an idea he will sit down and come up with several scenes, writing down on a post-it note basic ideas, he then asks himself what’s the worst thing that can happen in that situation or to that person? once he has this information he begins filling in the gaps with other notes that fill in the voids and timeline. Peter then begins writing using the post-it notes as stepping stones and letting his imagination fill in all the gaps between.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Its not uncommon for Peter to talk to himself in different character voices and styles trying to get a better understanding of that person. He may see a character or person on TV and be inspired by what he sees or hears.
