What inspires you to write?
It just happens. I start thinking about things that interest me and all of a sudden it takes hold of me and it won't let go. From there, I create the story in my mind as if it actually happened in real life. Once it takes hold it becomes all that I think about so I need to complete the story so I can stop thinking about it all the time. It forces me to write. In my latest book Saving Christ: Starway Seven I was inspired to create an actual person who is Jesus. I wanted to feel like I could know Jesus as a friend.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Ernest Hemingway is my all-time favorite but I also enjoy Stephen King and Michael Crichton because most of their works were made into movies. My latest book, Saving Christ: Starway Seven which is about a woman being sent back in time to be with Jesus during the last seven days of his life definitely deserves to be made into a movie.
Tell us about your writing process.
I go to the gym every day and somehow working out helps me focus on what I am writing. It empties my mind and allows me to focus 100% on what I am going to write when I get home. Using this process, I never get writer's block. It doesn't have to be the gym but I think exercising would help most writers to become better. I like to write in the evening and sometimes till two or three in the morning. Once I get going, I don't want to stop.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
As I said I have a different approach to writing. I create the characters in my mind as if they are actually real. I make up the scenes in my mind and then write them down. To me, all my characters and the stories they are involved in are real and have already happened. Trust me, they are still in my mind and I can't let them go. Now sometimes but not all the time I will make myself one of the characters. In my book Pollen and the Ring of Harmony, the character Pollen who is a protector of nature for the universe started out as me and I wanted to play him in the movie.
What advice would you give other writers?
That's a tough one because every writer is different and each writer follows a path that suits their writing styles. As long as you enjoy what you are writing just keep writing. Personally, I like big stories that can affect millions of people and have far-reaching meanings. Saving Christ: Starway Seven is about the most known person to ever exist – you can't get bigger than that.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Very simple – I wanted my vision to be experienced by many hoping they would benefit from it.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think audiobooks are going to become the most popular way of listening or reading a book. A million books are published every year and trying to figure out what you want to read or listen to is going to be a battle so getting your book known to readers is a major obstacle. So the real future of books is how well you can get people to know or find out about your work.
What genres do you write?: Spiritual, Fiction, Thriller
What formats are your books in?: Print, Both eBook and Print
