About Paul Kleynhans:
Paul Kleynhans was born in South Africa, but now lives in New Zealand with the hobbits (his children). When he’s not writing, he is a husband, engineer, brewer, gamer, and cat herder.
What inspires you to write?
History is my biggest inspiration, but otherwise most of my ideas come while day dreaming.
Tell us about your writing process.
My writing style varies between stories, but I mostly fall somewhere between a “gardener” and an “architect”. I need to start writing before I know my characters and my world. after a couple of chapters I create an outline, then proceed to side-step it at each opportunity.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
They kind of speak for themselves.
What advice would you give other writers?
Mostly, write! Complete a story. Don’t get distracted by editing or other stories, just get it done. It will be rough, but at least there should be a complete “thing” there.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I wasn’t sure if I was going to, but when it was done I thought it stacked up pretty well. So, why not?
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Anyone’s guess really, but obviously ebooks will play a huge part in that. I see audiobooks really taking off, too.
