About Once Upon a Dance:
Brought to you by a mother-daughter team. Konora is a professional ballet dancer. Her mother taught creative movement and ballet for decades. She was honored to be chosen and recognized by her local City Council (2014) for "embodying the spirit of partnership and commitment to children in our community" for her work with young dancers. She’s breathed dance from every angle: child to pre-professional to adult ballet student, zoom student, dance teacher, dance mom, competition mom, ballet-school parent-guilder, audience member, recital planner, business owner, and board member.
Once Upon a Dance’s first pandemic creation, Dancing Shapes, has won several awards:
• 2021 Independent Press Award WINNER
• 2021 15th Annual National Indie Excellence® Awards Finalist
• 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards Finalist
What inspires you to write?
As a covid-sidelined dance instructor, I needed a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Mo Williams, Brandon Mull, Kevin Henkes
Tell us about your writing process.
I'll dance the story as I think of ideas and see how the movements work out.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I become the characters.
What advice would you give other writers?
It's probably not your fault when your book gets printed offset or with missing pages.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Our goal was to get books out quickly so kids stuck at home could get moving. Self-publishing seemed like the quickest avenue.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It would be great if other printers entered the scene and created some competition. There's so much demand. I sent email to my printer and an automated response informed me of a 19-day response time, which proved accurate.
What genres do you write?: Children's
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
