About Nina Crespo:
Nina Crespo lives in Florida where she indulges in her favorite passions—the beach, kickboxing, a good glass of wine, and dancing with her own real-life hero. Her lifelong addiction to romance began in her teens while on a “borrowing spree” in her older sister’s bedroom where she discovered her first romance novel. Curiosity about people and places, including what’s beyond the stars, fuels her writer’s imagination. Indulge in her sensual contemporary stories and steamy paranormal tales to feed your own addiction for love, romance, and happily ever after. Her debut novella, TAKE ME IF YOU DARE, was released in June 2014 by Entangled Publishing. NAUGHTY LITTLE WISHES released in January 2015. Her debut romance, fantasy novella, THANE’S REDEMPTION, is scheduled for release in March 2015.
What inspires you to write?
People, life, a reason to laugh, making peace with something that’s happened—those are a few things that come to mind.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a seat-of-the-pants writer, but I respect the value of plotting things out. I usually have an idea of where the story is going. I write out the scenes that are standing out in my mind. Then, I take a step back and formally plot it out. Character sketches and scenes continue to evolve and unfold throughout the writing of the story.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Absolutely! Doesn’t everyone? Interacting with a character while I’m writing helps me to establish their voice and point of view.
What advice would you give other writers?
You have to keep writing. A moment of discouragement over how a paranormal/fantasy romance story was shaping up led me to answer a call-out from Entangled Publishing. I polished up a story in my files that seemed like a right fit and submitted it. A few weeks later, I received an offer. That led to the publication of my first Brazen novella, Take Me If You Dare. Don’t let discouragement defeat you. Use it as fuel to move you forward.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I chose to query my present publishers based on reputation, quality of work, and recommendations. Talk to other authors about their experiences. Research the options but make your decision based on what is a “right fit” for you.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Like anything else in life, it will evolve. I think clarity of vision and flexibility will become more important as the industry continues to change.
