About Nicole DragonBeck:
Nicole DragonBeck was born in California one snowy summer long ago, the illegitimate offspring of an elf and a troll. At a young age her powers exploded and she was banished to the wilderness of South Africa because her spells kept going inexplicably awry. There she was raised by a tribe of pygmy Dragons and had tremendous adventures, including defeating a terrible Fire-Demon that had been tormenting a sect of Dwarf priests. In gratitude they taught her the arcane magic of writing and the rest is horribly misinterpreted history.
What inspires you to write?
Music is a big inspiration of mine. And the power of words to transport others to worlds beyond this one, which I think is just magical.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am definitely a plotter, though I have my pantser moments. I like the structure an outline gives, but when you're inspired by a bit of dialogue or an event that you weren't planning on writing, that's magic too.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Mostly I have my characters talk to each other, and I just watch.
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep writing. It can be a long, slow process, much longer and slower than we hope or want, and it's important to always keep your eye on the mountain ahead.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I self-published because I didn't want to go through the process of pitching my book to agents or editors. I love the story, and I believe it can go places.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it's very exciting. People like to talk statistics, and so many ebooks are selling, and audio books are really hot, etc., etc., but at the end of the day, people love stories. People will always want stories. New stories and old stories, and new takes on old stories. So there are so many, many possibilities.
