About Michelle Murray:
Michelle is a married working mother of two fine young men (her children). She lives in Wisconsin. When not writing, she enjoys reading especially science fiction/fantasy and classics.
Her favorite authors include Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Margaret Weiss, and Colleen Houck.
She also enjoys doing painting and crafts, and spending time with her family. She enjoys going for walks, and swimming. She has been known to jump in Lake Michigan with no life jacket!
What inspires you to write?
I am inspired to write by nature, and by observing people. I love to soak in my atmosphere, and love people watching. Nature (trees, leaves, the sunshine, rainbows) also inspires me. I also love to listen and read positive sayings and songs, and am inspired by them as well.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
My favorite authors include Robin Hobb, PC Cast, JRR Tolkien, Mark Twain, and many others.
Recently, I have dived into the realm of mystery/suspense books instead of fantasy.
Tell us about your writing process.
My writing process is I try to start with an idea or saying, and go from there. Or I see something in nature or outside (pieces of broken glass, stairs on a nature hike) that I start my piece with. I also like to take songs or sayings and play with them and make my own unique poem/story.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes, I listen and talk to my characters when I write fiction. I like to try to think what they would say or do, and act it out like a mini-play.
What advice would you give other writers?
My advice would be to keep writing, and keep submitting.
You never know when one poem, one story, one book will be "the one".
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self publish Dream Walker, because I really thought it was a special story and deserved to be out in the world.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think you will see more and more self-published books, and more and more authors getting their names out there. I think (and you are starting to see this already) it will no longer be an exclusive to big publishers only.
What genres do you write?: fantasy, poetry
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
