About Michal Sasson:
Michal Sasson was born in 1966 to a high school teacher and an engineer. As a child, she had a dream of working with little children. This dream came true at the age of 34 when she decided to open her own Kindergarten. For the last 10 years, she had been a professional kindergarten teacher, running a private, successful, cozy and intimate kindergarten of 15 kids. During those 10 years (and 18 years of motherhood), Michal learnt a lot about young children: what and how they think, how they react, how they deal with their feelings, how they behave in accordance to their place and role in the family. When she decided to move on, and start writing, it was only natural she would focus on children and use her experience to help parents understand their kids and guide them to better life in the family.
As a part of the same change, she also took the challenge to direct and lead women’s self-empowerment groups. She has her own project for woman’s spiritual groups, and she leads women of all ages to foreign and exotic countries in a combined spiritual tour.
Doing that, Michal brings out the child hidden in her and in her clients, and helps them become fulfilled and happier grownups.
In her books and writing, Michal brings her worm, intelligent and witty spirit. They bring back the child in us, and they are as good for adults as they are for children.
What inspires you to write?
I have worked with children for more than 12 years. I learned a lot of their motivation and the way they think. I learned about their emotions and feelings. These are not little grownups!! Little children have a unique way of thinking and perspective. They do not see the world as we do. They need to learn how to process their feelings and turn them into accepted behaviors. They also need us grownups to understand their way of thinking and feeling so we could help them to grow to be fulfill and happy human beings. This is my mission. On one hand give children the legitimacy for their feelings and teach them how to process them. On the other hand, help parents to understand their kids.
Tell us about your writing process.
I have an idea. The idea comes from my experience with kids. What bothers them, what makes them happy or curious.
I usually “sleep on it” for a few nights. Then I just go ahead and write it as fluently as I can. The best part is working with the illustrator. This is when I need to go into details in my description of each scene. Then the pictures start coming and this is a real celebration as I get to see the life version of my dream..
I love it!
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I like to get into my characters head. Look through their eyes and listen in their ears. That’s how I know what they want to do..
What advice would you give other writers?
Listen to your thoughts, go with your heart and make your dream come true!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I am a self publisher. I find it fun and easy.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
There will allways be books to read and readers to read them. So I feel quite confident that this market will stay for ever. I’m a writer, but I’m also a reader.
