About Mette Mouritsen:
I am an experienced medical doctor, psychotherapist and mindfulness instructor, and I use my skills in an integrative way to facilitate healing in clients. In 2010 I had a sudden shift in consciousness, an awakening, and it changed my life in every way. I started to write books, and I have written six books by now. My work as a doctor has become more holistic and spiritual. In privat I am gifted with three grown up children. I am divorced from my ex. husband whom I was married with for 21 years. Our relation couldn't stand the changes by my awakening. I enjoy the small moments in life, the stilness of nature and the joyful company with my friends. And I love to sing and dance intuitively.
What inspires you to write?
Everyday meetings with people and clients inspires me to write, and a deptfelt wish to share the knowledge which have come to me since my awakening proces started.
Tell us about your writing process.
My inspiration comes in my silent moments usually in the morning where I sit for about an hour having morning coffee in silence on my own. Also I get inspired by listening carefully to other people and when I am walking in silence in nature. I write books and blogs and articles. When I am inspired I can write the main content of a book in 1-2 weeks. It feels like getting plugged in to a pibeline of inspiration and words that just flow through my hands. Thereafter I spend time on the vocabulary, the language and the spelling in order to clarify my understanding in the best way as possible to the reader. I usually have an urge to write in Danish and English at the same time. So often I write on two manus however on the same topic.
What advice would you give other writers?
Follow your inspiration. Take time to be still and listen inward. Take time to re-read your manus carefully if you are writing out of inspiration.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I am in some way impatience, so I can't wait until a publisher decides wether they like my book or not. I write to get this understanding out to as many people as possible and as soon as possible, so often I share my books for free. Besides my books are quite controversial in accordance to conventional medical thinking and I describe about my personal experiences in an honest and openhearted way, so it is not any publisher who wants to publish this kind of books. I have tried with my first two books, and then I stopped. One of my books is published through a publisher, the others are self publishing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think people read less these days and since there are so many new books in the book market, it is difficult to chose which book to read. According to my self I still love to read but I read less, since I know a lot by heart and by tuning in. So if I want to read something it must really capture my interest for some specific knowledge or it is by recommendation from others. I guess self publishing industry keep on increasing for a periode, then it stops and returns to ordinary publishing of romans and novels, and I think paperback will return since many people who are sensitive get overstimulated by the energy of electronic e-books. If the process of publishing is to slow, it will not match the fast growing knowledge that reaches the reader through other channels like social media or simply by self development. However romans and novels and criminal books and self biographic books will remain of interest.
