About Meredith Bond:
Meredith Bond is an award-winning author of a series of traditionally published Regency romances and indie-published historical paranormal romances. Known for her characters “who slip readily into one’s heart”, Meredith’s romance novels include her new Medieval Fantasy series, the Children of Avalon, her Regency-set paranormal romances in the Storm series and traditional Regencies (without magic) in The Merry Men Quartet—the last one will be coming out in 2015. Meredith also teaches writing and publishing at her local community college. If you want a taste of her class in book form, Chapter One is available at your favorite e-retailer.
What inspires you to write?
I love to travel. I’d love to time travel. Combine them and you’ve got a great story. Looking at how people live and fall in love, how people negotiate society and deal with all that life throws at them. That’s what inspires me to write.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a plotter. I figure out my characters in detail, filling in character worksheets. I then move on to my plot and fill in tons of worksheets on that (you can find most of them at my website: www.meredithbond.com, look at the “For Authors” section). From there I start to write — I pre-write each scene detailing for my self what I’m going to write (telling myself the story) and slowly that merges into description and dialogue and before I know it, I’m writing the actual scene.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I don’t. Instead, I try to get into their head and see the world and what’s happening in the story through their eyes.
What advice would you give other writers?
Read! Read fiction. Read non-fiction. Read articles on writing. Read books on writing. Read blogs on writing. You never stop learning when you read.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I currently self-publish because my books don’t fit anywhere nicely on one shelf. My books are fantasy historical romance. A traditional publisher wouldn’t know where to shelve them. It’s just easier to publish them myself.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It’s going to be fantastic. People love buying ebooks and people still love buying physical books. The best part is that people are reading more than ever.
