What inspires you to write?
Everyday life inspires me to write! I write about events, experiences, the human condition. I can people watch at the park and a story comes forth or listen to music and get inspired for a scene. I find my only hold back is my own imagination!
Tell us about your writing process.
I guess my writing process is both plotter and pantser. I start with an idea and I think I have it all planned out, but the characters start talking and pretty soon, they've taken over the story and I'm just along for the ride!
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Oh my Yes! My husband can even tell if I'm writing a confrontation scene. He says I'm grumpy (he used another word!) and easy to anger. If it gets too bad, he tells me to sit down and write it out so he can have some peace. Of course, he doesn't seem to mind the love scenes! lol
What advice would you give other writers?
Get into the social media game before you even publish. Join chat groups, blogs, forums, and be active in them. The more folks recognize your name, the better chance of selling a book. And it's FREE!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Well, life influenced me. When I wrote Whistlin' Dixie, my first novel, I went the traditional route and received 177 rejections. Most of them stated that they didn't know where to put me. It's a romance, but it has suspense, comedy, and sensuality as well.
However, when the opportunity came to self-publish, my family encouraged me to try it and voila', Whistlin' Dixie debuted in the Amazon Top 100 for Women's fiction – humor!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Right now, with the concept of self-publishing, everyone is writing a book – look at me! But as the industry evolves, I think it's going to be more refined with algorithms, etc. and that may detract from the "everybody's writing" stage.
